This makes me want to open a kickstarter where donors will get absolutely nothing. I just want to see how many stupid people will give me money just because I am asking.
Not to create another thread just for this. But everyone was bitching that you'd have to buy a new Tour Of Duty Ticket not just to have a chance of dropping a hat, but also do play on official Valve servers.
Well, what if you buy the ticket, and on the last second disconnect from the server? Sure, you'd never be able to type in "gg" to your mates or brag about glory, but still, you'd be playing endlessly on Valve servers for a 1-ticket price.
>>151356801 >>151356694 Well, i've always known that people have proposed in online games. It's just a bit funny that the games are actually trying to support it now.
>>151356981 It's really not trolling though, it's business
>Our store items are selling like crazy because people love to show off >How do we earn even more money? >What if we put an item far more expensive than everything else so people with money can prove their superiority? >Brilliant
Stuff like this is sold only because people exist who will pay for it
It's sometimes hard for poor people to understand rich people logic but it's quite literally:
>>151356540 >And why the fuck would someone spend 100 dollars on an useless item again? What's the fucking logic behind this?
You could say the same thing about real wedding rings. There's absolutely nothing special about diamonds, yet they cost thousands of dollars because girls like them because they're shiny. They're not even rare, jewelry companies just trickle the supply out slowly to artificially inflate their price. Don't blame Valve, blame retards that like to piss their money away.
>>151356803 It will totally work, you should totally do it, make sure to spam it on /v/ though and pretend to be a woman so people will donate to you in hopes of fucking you
valve better release some more servers for MvM by the time I get back or else I'm gonna be pissed. Valve, I bought the game before it went f2p and I refuse to spend any more money on your game. PLease don't make my life more difficult because of this.
>>151359695 So you're trying to say that spending 100 dollars on a useless "real" item is better than spending 100 dollars on a useless "fake" item because you can hold the useless "real" item in your hands?
>>151359869 >>151359869 >>151359940 At least you get something you get to keep. You can't hold a digital ring, it has a one time use, you can't sell it to get a refund, you can't trade it towards something useful, no girl is going to be impressed over a digital ring. Its completely useless not to say the physical ones are all that great either but you can still get more use out of it than a string of data.
>>151360349 >>151360381 I'd much rather have something I can make money off of than burning it right away for my e-peen. I don't see anyone trying to steal virtual rings.
>This useless thing is more useless than this other useless thing.
I cannot bring myself to care. The point of all this is that if Valve wants to sell something stupid for $100, and people want to buy it... then I don't give a shit.
The only time something like that becomes a problem is when the stupid, expensive thing starts replacing the good, reasonably priced alternatives. i.e. AAA games vs niche games.
>>151360650 depends on the area of radius that the money is falling down, the wind velocity and the height. If it was from a one story house roof the best course of action would be to use your hands.
The only problem is that when you get into things like that, it would be easy to make it so the 100 dollar car is a better quality car, here's a good reason why:
One of the ways you could get away with making a 100 dollar car for in game use is that it would represent an expensive car outside of the game, like a sport or racing car.
These cars tend to be, by and large, a great deal better (subjectively, in many aspects) than a regular car.
So by charging a premium price, you establish a pay-to-win scenario where the most expensive car also happens to be (one of) the best.
>>151360848 its the perfect analogy. There's a market for $100 ring buyers. Why would you not exploit that? He doesnt harm anyone else, hes just providing a service/item for retarded people and getting paid alot of money for it
there is nothing immoral, unethical, harmful, or wrong about selling a bag of shit if they know it's a bag of shit
Why would you buy a gaming PC? It costs hundreds of dollars! Video games are stupid and a waste of time! I can't believe there are people who make and sell video games. Who would pay for such garbage? It's WRONG and they should STOP because they allow people to spend money on things I would never spend money on!
>>151361330 >By that logic cavemen should have had the internet!
That... what? How does that follow at all?
Anyway, the point I'm making is that there's plenty of shit we all buy that other people somewhere probably think is a waste of money. How is this any different? Look at it objectively.
it's like a normal wedding ring. overpriced and useless. a real ring is to be showed off in RL, a digital ring online. there might be couples that pass so much time on steam playing games that a ring on theyr profile might be noticed by more friend than a (more costly) ring in RL.
>>151361679 Some people get great enjoyment from having aesthetically pleasing characters in the vidya. I have a friend who spends hours making his pyro in look perfect right down to stressing over which team paint to use. He likes playing digital dress up, who cares? It gives him enjoyment.
>>151361679 Jesus Christ, you really don't understand the discussion.
It's irrelevant. People will spend money on things that you don't think they should spend money on. They have done so in the past, they do so now and they will continue to do so for the rest of time. You just have to understand that it does not affect you at all, and it's their money to spend.
>>151362971 >You just have to understand that it does not affect you It will when Valve becomes so successful future games and developers follow the same trend and start selling things that are more than just cosmetic.
>>151363153 Sure, it might, in the future. Valve is already really successful, by the way. And if the other developers start selling things that aren't just cosmetic, don't buy them. I won't be buying them either. I don't even buy the cosmetic stuff. I totally agree that having something that you have to pay for that gives you an advantage is wrong, but having cosmetics that you can pay for makes no difference whatsoever.
enjoy your viruses and constant break downs with your infereior and shitty OS and hardware. I'll be over here not having to worry about any of that because anything made by Apple just works.
ITT: People don't get the joke. Because they are fucking retarded.
Alternatively, people pretend to not get the joke by approximating not getting the joke as closely as possible for epic trolling. Which is just as fucking retarded.
>>151363756 The only joke I see here is you and your pathetic life go kill yourself the world would be better off without you, you fucking fat piece of shit no life neckbeard
