I just checked the incident and read the cause was pilot error.

Only Fokker 28/100 problem I remember is that USAir crash at La Guardia due ice on the wings. And that can happen to any plane.

Each type ecounters a failure now and then.

Horizon Air used to have quite a few F28s; I remember always seeing them at Sea-Tac back in my spotting days. They were usually run on higher-density routes like Seattle to Spokane. They were phased out once QX took delivery of the Canadairs.

Eh, the airport's built inside the boundaries of a flood basin. The dam's controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers, and they're more willing to flood the airport when it rains hard than to move their equipment (mostly bulldozers and backhoes) in the aequeduct downstream. Last time it flooded was 5 years ago, then in 1980 before that.

Still, it's better to have the airport there and have it flood once every few years than not have anything there at all (since you can't build houses or anything in the flood basin).

fucking ATL floods pretty damn good in an August rainstorm.
I was stuck there 14 hours one day because about 4 inches of rain fell in 2 hours and all traffic came to a halt. Delta was chaos for the rest of the day trying to get caught up.
There was so much water the areas between the terminals looked like lakes, with wind driven waves.
moral of the story, avoid changing planes in Atlanta in the summer. Still, if I could choose an airport to be stuck in for 15 hours it would be Atlanta

However, about a third of the runway is still dry, and that's plenty for most of the airplanes on the airport to safely take off from; but the city went and put sandbags on the runway to make sure nobody tried, because they'd rather see as many airplanes as possible trapped by the rising floodwaters.
